The Central Conference on Neighboring Work was held in Beijing from April 8 to 9. In 2013, at the first symposium on neighboring diplomacy since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the concept of neighboring diplomacy of being friendly, sincere, beneficial and accommodating, leading China to open up a new realm of friendly cooperation with neighboring countries. Over the past decade, neighboring work has achieved historic achievements and undergone historic changes. Today, China has reached a consensus on building a community of shared future with 17 neighboring countries, forming “two major clusters” of communities of shared future in the Indochina Peninsula and Central Asia.

“China has always placed its neighboring diplomacy at the top of its overall diplomatic agenda, and ASEAN is the priority of China’s neighboring diplomacy.” Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing said that under the joint leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping and Malaysian leaders, China and Malaysia have reached an important consensus on building a community with a shared future, and have achieved fruitful cooperation results in the fields of politics, economy, trade, and cultural exchanges. China-Malaysia cooperation is a microcosm of China-ASEAN cooperation. “Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Malaysia relations will surely reach a new level, and China-ASEAN cooperation will also open up a new situation.”

Building a “Central Asian Cluster” of comprehensive strategic partners, establishing the China-Central Asia mechanism, and promoting the great development of the SCO… Han Chunlin, Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan, said that the historic leap and historic achievements in China’s relations with Central Asian countries are fundamentally due to the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping’s diplomatic thought and the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping. Jiang Zaidong, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the “Belt and Road” initiative, which showed the broad world sentiment of the leader of a big party and a big country. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative. It has attracted more than 25 billion US dollars in direct investment and created more than 230,000 jobs. We must adhere to Xi Jinping’s diplomatic thought as the fundamental guideline, seek progress in stability, keep the right path and innovate, and constantly create a new situation in neighboring work, so that Asia will continue to be a stable plate and a highland of development, and serve the Chinese-style modernization construction, the construction of a strong country, and the great cause of national rejuvenation.

Ambassador Hou Yanqi, head of the Chinese Mission to ASEAN, said that China and ASEAN are geographically adjacent and culturally connected. They have established a comprehensive strategic partnership and have been each other’s largest trading partners for five consecutive years. China and ASEAN belong to the global South and both advocate Asian values ​​and respect the diversity of civilizations. ASEAN recognizes China’s development path and philosophy and believes that China is an indispensable partner for all countries to achieve modernization. China firmly supports ASEAN in maintaining the central position of the regional cooperation framework, and promotes ASEAN to establish close ties with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, etc., jointly practice true multilateralism and open regionalism, and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice and the interests of the vast number of developing countries. We will fully and thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech, promote the building of a closer China-ASEAN community of shared future, and create a more favorable surrounding environment for the comprehensive promotion of Chinese-style modernization.

Recently, the United States has abused tariffs on all trading partners, including China, seriously infringed on the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, seriously violated the rules of the World Trade Organization, seriously damaged the rules-based multilateral trading system, and seriously impacted the stability of the global economic order, causing strong opposition from the international community, including countries around China.

The delegates said that open cooperation is a historical trend, and mutual benefit and win-win are what people want. We must stand firmly on the right side of history and the progress of human civilization and, together with neighboring countries, resolutely oppose the idea that “might is right” and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice and the legitimate rights and interests of all countries.
